Transgender Athletes: A Concern for Sport Integrity?
Long considered a taboo subject, the participation of transgender athletes in elite sport divides international federations and highlights the conflict between the need for inclusion of trans people and the imperative of preserving the integrity of sport. The aim of this article is to present these different approaches, briefly explaining the medical reasons underlying current eligibility rules, and to highlight the main ethical challenges posed by the participation of trans athletes in high-level competitions.
